SA Music Week Day Three – Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Day Three: Everyone knows and loves Ladysmith Black Mambazo (possibly because of their collaboration on Paul Simon’s Graceland album). It’s one of those things that it might be kind of impossible not to love if you’re South African, because when you hear it you’re home in a very visceral way that is hard to explain. It’s the music of the road to the coast, the winding road through the Valley of a Thousand Hills, the music of miners far from home in places dark. It’s the sound of the place where our hearts fall silent out of respect.
